3 1/2 stars.I absolutely loved Kevin, the scaffolder whose search for his true sexuality runs him across Perry, the slightly effeminate, openly gay, grocery store clerk. Perry was a bit too cold for me most of the way. The story was sweet and there were very few bumps in the road, but two things bothered me:
1) Sporadic time line. In the middle of a serious scene, whether exploring friendship or exploring each other's bodies, the author has a tendency to jump ahead in time--a day, week, month--with no warning and no paragraph break.
2) If the cover is supposed to show that Kevin is on the left, they are way, way off the mark. Nowhere in the text is he described as having a beard, nowhere is he described as dark and scruffy--in fact, I imagined him to be sort of blondish and clean shaven. I will stick with my imagination.
The premise is good--two blue collar blokes coming together from different points of view to find each other. Getting there seems to be all up to the bisexual guy, and in the end he gets what he wants, and I suppose so do we.

I love all of the authors stories and can't wait for the next one in this line. And also the ones in her other series.
I have been reading the other stories in the series's, and A secret boyfriend was still exciting and fun to read. I liked the explanation that H J Perry givea at the end, I think people act or change their views by a outside change in their normal lifes. A Secret Boyfriend was great, and i hope to read what ever next story awaits in this serie.
This was a great story. can't wait for the next book in the series. Especially like how Kevin and Perry were such opposites but were able to find mutual ground and worked to make a life together.
This is a really great series, each book has its own merits. If your reading the series, your going to love this story. It's definitely a must read. Many Thanks Honey Bee 🐝📚💙🎶
I have really enjoyed the stories in this series, although I was a little disappointed in the ending to this one. Perhaps I like to be spoon fed. The ending was subtle yet I suppose let us know where the romance was heading but I would have liked more. Perhaps we will learn more about our lovebirds in another book. Let's hope so.
At first I thought this was more suited to be a draft than a real final version. The writing is good but feel like there could have been more in storytelling and expanding on the topics. Instead of a chapter being seven pages or so, it could have easily been 20 if the story line was more developed and gotten more in-depth into the characters' feelings, emotions, thoughts (past and present), desires. As a gay man, I feel there was more that each character could have given in the story.
As far as chapters go, my head is spinning from the Kevin/Perry/Kevin/Perry/Kevin as chapter headings. I would have much rather seen three chapters of Kevin combined and expanded as one chapter then have the next three chapters of Perry combined and expanded as one chapter in either his point of view of what occurred in Kevin's chapter or going forward from Kevin's chapter.
If this book is meant as a starting point for mm gay romance, it's a good start. It doesn't have to be salacious and overly gay if the writer doesn't feel comfortable doing that. It just needs to be more content and more male thought processes brought forward for it to appear to be more mm gay romance. Good start.
A sweet story of an English construction worker's first gay romance. Both MC's search for anonymous gay sex, and both are surprised to find more than a hookup.
The erotic scenes are not the highlight of this book, but are substantial enough to make the characters' motivation real.
The main vehicle of the story the MC's internal points-of-view. Kevin has to rethink what he feels for Perry, and how a gay lover will affect his work life. Perry, too wrestles with the chance he takes with Kevin's newfound gay life.
Lots of angst, most of it sweet, makes for a satisfying HEA.
